The Healthcare Administrative Training Program (HATP) is a 12-week training program designed to prepare individuals for careers with local hospitals, clinics, and medical billing companies. Graduates often pursue administrative positions in reception, records, coding, and other career pathways in healthcare.
Support staff work closely with both graduates and employers to provide career counseling, retention support, and advancement assistance. Graduates of the program can expect to find full-time entry-level jobs that provide a living wage, health insurance and other benefits.
The 12-week course provides participants with 40 hours/week of classroom training. Classroom training includes 8 credits from Madison College in Medical Office Procedures, Medical Language for Business Professionals, Customer Contact, Keyboarding with the potential to test out on 3 more credits in MS Windows, MS 2007 Word Beginning and MS 2007 Excel Beginning*. Training is also provided in Epic Software and HIPPA/privacy policies.
The course also requires 5-10 hours/week of self-guided study and a 40-hour internship in a healthcare setting.
The Healthcare Administrative Training Program is designed for individuals currently unemployed or underemployed with an expressed interest in clerical or administrative positions in a healthcare environment. The program is also appropriate for those who are seeking new employment or career advancement opportunities in this sector. Medical Receptionist, Medical Records Clerk, Medical Secretary, Insurance Verifier, Coding Assistant, General Office, Program Assistant, Help Desk Representative, Records Technician, Medical Scheduling and other health occupation support.
In order to attend the Health Administration Training Program, participants must complete the Urban League’s Foundations course. This 5-week training program will give you the skills to find and keep a job in today’s economy. To be considered, participants:
• Must have a GED, HSED, or high school diploma.
• Must complete a Compass assessment and earn a score of at least 75 in Reading, 69 in Writing and 30 in Math.
• Must be able to type at least 20 words per minute
• Must have no convictions for information crimes (forgery, fraud, etc.)
